Because of the coronavirus pandemic it was the first Town Show for two years. The event, organised by Waltham Abbey Town Council, saw families turn out over the weekend for a variety of entertainment and stalls run by local charities and businesses. Entertainment at Town Mead included a performance by Streetzahead dance group, Stagecoach Loughton and a display of Morris dancing. There was also ferret racing, a dog agility course and dog show, Punch and Judy shows and circus skills. Town Mayor councillor Jodie Lucas said: I had such a fantastic weekend. Well done and thank you to everybody involved.

Cllr Jodie Lucas, 27, told the annual council meeting she was truly and deeply honoured to have been nominated for the position. She succeeds councillor Antony Watts who received his past mayor s badge from cllr Lucas at the meeting held at Waltham Abbey Town Hall on Wednesday. Cllr Lucas said: I really am truly and deeply honoured to be elected as Mayor of Waltham Abbey and it is a privilege to accept this position in the town my family has resided in for nearly 200 years.

Initially eight properties were proposed but the scheme has been reduced to five - four two-bedroom and one one-bedroom - following pre-application advice from Epping Forest District Council. Committee chairman Jodie Lucas said because of the town centre location there was no requirement to provide parking. She told today s planning and licensing committee meeting: I can t see any objection. They are raising the roof height but it is set back and not overlooking anyone.
