IT’S hard to believe we are in the final week of the Scottish Parliament election campaign. Many of you will have already voted by post and for those who are voting on Thursday, your minds are weighing up the impact your votes will have for this city and across Scotland. This election is perhaps more crucial than any that has gone before it. Now I know readers will think politicians always say that, but Glaswegians have a clear choice on Thursday. You can vote for 100% focus on our recovery with the Scottish Conservatives or you can choose to take a wrecking ball to that recovery with another divisive independence referendum with the SNP.
The Scottish Conservatives launched their manifesto putting stopping another independence referendum at the top of their priorities. The Tories said instead they want to focus on building a recovery with commitments on jobs and spending on infrastructure projects. The manifesto includes a pledge of an extra £2bn for the NHS over the next five years. Other policies included a £200 million fund to tackle potholes, scrapping public car parking charges to help revive town centres, and a homebuyers tax cut saving people up to £2,100. There are also commitments on building more homes and looking at new rail lines and stations Douglas Ross, Scottish Conservatives leader admitted his party is not likely to win the election and he the next First Minister but said instead, the manifesto “sets out the issues that the Scottish Conservatives will fight for in the next Parliament”
