Holyrood: Tories plan 16 Bills as work to become 'real alternative' to the SNP begins


The Scottish Conservatives are planning 16 new bills as the hard work begins to becoming what Douglas Ross calls a real alternative to Nicola Sturgeon s SNP.
“Right to rehab” legislation for those struggling with drink or drugs has been included in the raft of new bills the party will try to get through Holyrood.
Scottish Conservatives leader Douglas Ross said his party wanted to introduce a grand total of 16 Bills to the Scottish Parliament, after what he described as their “best ever” Holyrood election result.
He insisted he wanted the party to become a “real alternative” to the SNP.
The SNP secured a record fourth term in government in Edinburgh, with Ms Sturgeon’s party winning 64 seats – one more than in 2016 but critically one short of a majority in the Scottish Parliament. ....

Scottish Tories put stopping indyref2 at top of priorities list ahead of election


The Scottish Conservatives launched their manifesto putting stopping another independence referendum at the top of their priorities.
The Tories said instead they want to focus on building a recovery with commitments on jobs and spending on infrastructure projects.
The manifesto includes a pledge of an extra £2bn for the NHS over the next five years.
Other policies included a £200 million fund to tackle potholes, scrapping public car parking charges to help revive town centres, and a homebuyers tax cut saving people up to £2,100.
There are also commitments on building more homes and looking at new rail lines and stations
Douglas Ross, Scottish Conservatives leader admitted his party is not likely to win the election and he the next First Minister but said instead, the manifesto “sets out the issues that the Scottish Conservatives will fight for in the next Parliament” ....
