SHARE Citigroup could fetch as much as $6 billion from the sale of retail banking assets in 13 markets across the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East as the lender forges ahead with plans to fine-tune its global branch network. The moves are part of a bigger refresh of Citigroup’s strategy under chief executive Jane Fraser, who took the helm in March. The sale process for Australia is the furthest along and the preliminary interest for many of the assets has come mainly from local players, sources told Bloomberg. SHARE Mobile phone giant Xiaomi is among investors considering joining a funding round of at least 1.5 billion Chinese yuan ($231 million) for Black Sesame Technologies. The fundraising would value the Shanghai-headquartered artificial intelligence and autonomous driving chip maker at as much as $1.5bn, sources told Bloomberg. Black Sesame is considering an initial public offering on China’s technology-focused Shanghai Star board as soon as next year. At least one more round of investment is planned before any potential IPO. Xiaomi has invested billions in scores of start-ups to build out its smartphone and online ecosystem, but a deal with Black Sesame would mark the company’s latest bet on the automotive arena since announcing a $10bn plan to build electric vehicles. ....

The public-private alliance, called Leaf Coalition, will benefit billions of people around the world who depend on the rainforests. Other companies in the group include Bayer, Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey, GlaxoSmithKline, and Nestle. “Climate change is the greatest threat to our planet, and the Leaf Coalition offers us an opportunity to bring together governments and companies to fight it,” Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and chief executive, said. “In uniting behind a common cause, the countries and companies of the coalition have a chance to end deforestation by 2030. SHARE The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said 106 Boeing 737 Max airplanes have been grounded worldwide by an electrical issue and said the American planemaker is still working on a fix. Boeing disclosed an electrical power system issue on April 7 and recommended operators to temporarily remove these airplanes from service. The problem involved the electrical grounding - or connections designed to maintain safety in the event of a surge of voltage - inside a backup power control system. The FAA said subsequent analysis and testing showed the issue could involve additional systems”. The FAA said in a formal notice to international air regulators that 106 airplanes are covered, including 71 registered in the US.
