AIN sought to canvass opinion on whether there has been a regional downsizing of aircraft types due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Traditional Royal Family and government delegations have tended in the past to travel in size, giving rise to the phenomenon dubbed the royal barge bizliners.

Aside from scheduled cargo, business jet activity has been the only sector in Middle East aviation to prosper during the pandemic, as the dearth of recent airline activity has forced more people to look into air charter or even business aircraft ownership. But the practical realities of day-to-day restrictions have made aircraft operators’ lives difficult.
Factors complicating missions have included border closures, differing immigration rules that often change daily, lockdowns that limit access to suppliers and amenities, health screenings and long quarantine periods restricting crew entry and crew rest, reduced airport opening hours, and manpower shortages. ....

In 1960, Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh reached the deepest point in the world s oceans piloting a submersible called Trieste. Recently, new records have been set by James Cameron with the first solo descent in 2013, Patrick Lahey and Jonathan Struwe’s deepest marine recovery in 2019, and astronaut Kathryn Sullivan who set the first women’s record in 2020. Common to 12 of 15 record-breaking firsts is the submersible vehicle Limiting Factor, designed by Canadian engineer Patrick Lahey. Dubai: The Guinness World Records has confirmed that Dubai-based expatriate Hamish Harding and renowned ocean explorer Victor Vescovo have been added to the record books as the first humans to successfully traverse the full length of the deepest section of the Challenger Deep the deepest point on Earth.
Using a purpose-built DSV Limiting Factor, a two-person deep-submergence vehicle built by Triton Submarines, the duo made the dive on March 5 to set two new world records for achieving the greatest distance travelled at Full Ocean Depth and greatest duration spent at Full Ocean Depth, at four hours and 15 minutes.
The average depth of the ocean is about 12,100 feet. Harding and Vescovo achieved the feat by exploring Challenger Deep the lowest point on Earth located at the Mariana Trench which, at nearly 11km deep or 10,925 metres to be exact is equivalent to 13 times the height of Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower! ....
