Vancouver has not played since March 24 and had 22 players and four staff members test positive for the coronavirus. The Canucks were scheduled to return against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday and play the Maple Leafs on Saturday, but doctors from the team, the NHL and the NHL Players Association determined they needed more time. ....

The Canucks traded Gaudette before the trade deadline today, appearing to give up on the former Hobey Baker Award winner. Selected by the Canucks as a fifth-round draft pick in 2015, Gaudette blossomed at Northeastern University in the three years that followed. The Braintree, Massachusetts, product showed promise during his first pro season, with 11 points in 14 games with the Utica Comets and 12 points in 56 NHL games with Vancouver. Last season looked to be Gaudette’s coming out party, as he produced 33 points (12-21-33) in 59 games. That’s a 46-point pace had he played 82 games. ....
Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports The Vancouver Canucks are coming back. The team will reopen its facilities tomorrow for the first time since March 31, and begin playing games five days later. The NHL has announced numerous changes to the schedule that will see the Canucks play their remaining 19 regular season games in 31 days, beginning on Friday at home to the Edmonton Oilers. The end of the regular season has been extended by eight days, beyond when the NHL originally planned to start the Stanley Cup playoffs though the official playoff start date has yet to be finalized. “With the newly revised end date for the regular season for the North Division, it is possible that the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the East, Central and West Divisions could open a few days earlier than the North Division,” the NHL said in a media release. ....
