BAY CITY, MI One Bay City resident who said she was displaced from her apartment of about four years so it could be converted into an Airbnb is Nichole Bartel. Before she moved out, she shared common areas with Airbnb users who were renting other units in her building. Initially, that didn’t bother her.
Then Bartel briefly left a crate of vinyl records outside her unit, only to have it disappear. She knocked on the door of an Airbnb rental and found those inside had taken the crate. ....

Bay City extends state of emergency to allow virtual meetings through June 30

BAY CITY, MI The Bay City Commission approved an action during its last meeting that will allow virtual city meetings to continue into the summer months.
During the Monday, April 4 regular meeting, the commission unanimously approved a resolution that extended a recently issued local state of emergency until June 30.
Bay City Mayor Kathleen Newsham previously declared the local state of emergency for the city on Wednesday, March 31, to allow the city to have virtual meetings without violating the Open Meetings Act. The original declaration was made by Newsham as PA 254 of 2020 expired on April 1, which specifically addressed the use of virtual meetings and the Open Meetings Act. ....

BAY CITY, MI - The Bay City Commission approved a raise for City Manager Dana Muscott for 2021.
During the Monday, March 15 regular commission meeting, the commission voted unanimously to increase Muscott’s current annual salary to $136,000.
Previously, Muscott’s annual salary was increased to $129,094.02 after the commission approved a $3,760.02 raise, or 3% increase, during the March 2, 2020 meeting. Muscott had also previously received a 3% increase in 2019. Based on Muscott’s approved annual salary amount from March, 2020, she received a salary boost of $6,905.98 for 2021, or approximately over 5%. ....

BAY CITY, MI - The City of Bay City is one step closer to having an ordinance to regulate food trucks operating in the city.
The City Commission received an ordinance proposal for its first reading that would require anyone operating a food truck within the city to obtain a specific annual or daily license from the city clerk. ....
