AG Tong Announces $300M Settlement Over Sale Of Suboxone

Attorney General William Tong today announced a $300 Million multistate settlement with Indivior plc and Indivior Inc. to settle allegations that Indivior falsely and aggressively marketed and otherwise promoted the drug Suboxone, resulting in improper expenditures of state Medicaid funds.

Indivior, a Delaware company, will pay a total of $300 million to resolve various civil fraud allegations impacting Medicaid and other government healthcare programs, of which $203,735,800 will go to Medicaid and $90,682,800 will be paid to the fifty states, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, as their share of the Medicaid recovery. Connecticut will receive $7,921,070.05 in the settlement and an additional $200,000 for Connecticut Department of Social Services state-funded programs. ....

Attorney General William Tong sent a letter to Alden Global Capital requesting information about the hedge fund s potential acquisition of Tribune Publishing, the company that owns Connecticut s largest news organization, The Hartford Courant.

I am deeply troubled by the reports that Alden Global Capital, a hedge fund with a history of decimating newspapers across the country, may be poised to take complete control of The Hartford Courant, Attorney General Tong said. The Courant is a crucial part of Connecticut s media landscape and has already withstood countless devastating cuts to its staff and operations since Alden acquired a third of Tribune Publishing in 2019. The Courant deserves an owner who will invest in the critical journalism they produce instead of making draconian cuts to line the company s own pockets. ....

Court Unseals States' Latest Generic Drug Complaint

Attorney General William Tong today released the third full unredacted complaint filed by a coalition of 51 states and territories resulting from its more than six year antitrust investigation into price-fixing in the generic pharmaceutical industry. The states allege that generic drug manufacturers of topical products conspired to artificially inflate and manipulate prices, reduce competition, and unreasonably restrain trade for generic drugs sold across the United States. The complaint was unsealed after the court granted the states motion to unseal. Among the evidence unsealed are images from the so-called Diary of Collusion meticulously documenting widespread price-fixing in the generic drug industry. Excerpts from the diary are interwoven throughout the third complaint. ....
