After years of scrutiny for spending millions of dollars on outside legal counsel, the Recording Academy has begun a search for an in-house general counsel, Billboard has learned. Recording Academy president/CEO Harvey Mason Jr. confirmed the search in an interview with Billboard on Monday, saying when asked about the role, “Yes. We have started that process.” It has been a source of controversy in recent years that a nonprofit organization the academy s size and stature didn’t have an in-house general counsel and instead paid high yearly fees to outside law firms. More than 12% of Richardson’s registered voters took part in the city’s May 1 election, according to city officials. Voters selected City Council members, Richardson ISD board members and approved the school district’s $750 million bond package. Collin County saw 14.71% of registered voters in the county cast ballots in the spring election, while Dallas County had 9.63% voter turnout, according to data from the two counties. Richardson Deputy City Manager Don Magner said the city’s combined turnout for the two counties was 12.52%. “We always want as many people to take part as they can, but for a local election it is a good turnout,” Magner said. ....

Shamsul received 40.5% of the votes for the Place 6 race and Frederick had 30%. Candidates must earn at least 50% of votes to avoid going to a runoff. The May 1 election also saw Joe Corcoran defeat incumbent Kyle Kepner for the Place 4 council seat. Corcoran received 53.4% of the votes and Kepner, who was seeking a second term, secured 46.6%. ....
