KENENBUNK, Maine  Under normal circumstances, the Regional School Unit 21 food service team would be making about 1,200 meals per day to keep the district s students fed. With so many students learning from home, that number fell to about 500 to 600 meals per day.
That was concerning to RSU 21 for two reasons: nobody wants children in the community experience food insecurity and the district s future meal funding is determined in part by how many meals are served this school year, according to an announcement from the district.
So, in addition to the typical meal offerings, the district began last week making multi-day meal kits available as well. There are five-day kits and two-day kits available. ....

SANFORD, Maine – A school district whose team colors are red and white turned all red this week, with students staying home and learning remotely as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout the region.
Sanford Superintendent of Schools Matthew Nelson on Wednesday announced in a text and automated phone call to families that the entire system would move from its hybrid, or “yellow,” model to its full distance-learning, or “red,” model through at least Monday, Jan. 25.
Nelson explained that he had made his decision following discussions with the Maine Center for Disease Control and the Maine Department of Education regarding two schools in the district that have been designated as sites of virus outbreaks. ....
