Royal China, Bandra is serving up more of the familiar

Earlier this year, Royal China reopened its Bandra outpost after three years of shuttering its old one. The new and improved restaurant is located opposite Mehboob Studios and right above the iconic furniture store, Damian. There’s a sense of familiar comfort as you walk into the sprawling venue whose decor is minimal and understated, in line with the sensibilities of its mothership in South Mumbai. As is its menu. At a time when restaurants are clamouring to introduce new menus and experimental dishes, and cocktails, Royal China’s stubborn insistence on refusing to change is, admittedly, comforting. “I’m not aiming for a Michelin star,” says owner Neville Vazifdar rather matter-of-factly. “It’s a menu that’s worked for all these years and I don’t see any reason to change it.”
