he took off running the officer in pursuit the spun around and fired a 40 caliber semi-automatic at the officer. that officer returned fire hitting and killing the suspect. police commissioner charles ramsay credits a longer and more protective vest and patrol officers wear with saving the 17 year police veteran s live. right in the lower abdomen and very fortunate because they have a special vest that also has an extension plate on it, and that s what caught the round. reporter: the man was wanted for the murder of 25-year-old meghan dot tow and her unborn child. dot tow was an innocent victim shot and killed on a sunday morning in september by a bullet fired a block away as she sat outside her frankford home on the 1500 block of adams avenue. police say the gunman had been hiding out in this apartment in the northeast. neighbors there watching on in gives disbelief this morning. this happening here is ridiculous. i mean, you look outside your window and you have kid
