WORCESTER The Canal District rolled out the red carpet five years ago when the neighborhood initiated a drive that overwhelmed the team with 10,000 postcards.
This week, the Worcester Red Sox finally arrived to play the team s first game at Polar Park in the heart of the Canal District, and businesses there are beyond thrilled to welcome the new hometown team.
WooSox banners are hanging throughout the neighborhood, shops are promoting opening day events and restaurants are planning game-day specials.
The Worcester Red Sox play at 3 p.m. Tuesday against the Syracuse Mets.
