The Scarlet & Black took home the title of 2023 best print/online newspaper of the year at the annual Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) awards. In addition to the award won by the paper as a whole, individual staff members won an additional 19 awards. Notably, staff writer Allison Moore `24 was one of four.
As Grinnell College’s student newspaper, it is our responsibility to provide fair and comprehensive coverage of issues that affect our community. In light of recent Iowa legislation that directly endangers and marginalizes the trans community, it is important to address both this harm and the way that national news coverage has contributed to a wave.
The city of Grinnell is planning to build a new water plant by 2026 due to the deteriorated and corroded conditions of equipment, including the water softener and pipe gallery in the current water plant. Grinnell is currently experiencing higher levels of water hardness compared to spring 2022 due to the Grinnell water plant shutting.
