Springfield s council meeting Monday night was full of heartfelt goodbyes and excited hellos as new council members took their seats on the city s governing body. During the meeting, outgoing General Seat A Councilwoman Jan Fisk and Zone 1 Councilwoman Phyllis Ferguson passed the torch to Heather Hardinger and Angela Romine, who officially began their four-year terms with a council lunch meeting Tuesday. Fisk and Ferguson also gave speeches thanking the volunteer council, city staff and all the residents of Springfield. Fisk highlighted several projects she was proud to support during her nine years as a councilwoman, including the development of Rountree s pocket neighborhood, the revitalization of downtown institutions like the Heer s Building and History Museum on Park Central Square, the blighting and subsequent development of Bear Village and all the new grocery stores and markets that have come to town.
