now at 11:00 this endangered blue whale is beached on the coast tonight and initial investigation shows it may have been struck by a ship. the whale washed up on agate beach in bolinas just north of stinson beach. more now from veronica de la cruz. the blue whale carcass is nearly 80 feet long and is described as a subadult female. the marin mammal center said it first got reports last night about a carcass floating near the shoreline and by this morning it was on the beach. scientists from the mammal center took samples from the skin and blubber and plan to go back out to the beach tomorrow to do a complete necropsy with help from the california academy of sciences. that s when they ll be able to determine if a ship strike was the cause of death. photographs provide another perspective on just how large this whale is. distinctive markings indicate that this is the same whale spotted a dozen times off the coast since 1999. tonight a federal official at noaa issued a warni

kopelman has the latest. this was a really rare situation and in which the dynamics weren t really there to support a tornado touching down. however there was just enough spin in the mid levels of the atmosphere that supported this funnel cloud developing. there was a report it touched down which did lead to a tornado warning. it included the another part of linn county and that led to tornado sirens sounded across the entire county which is the only way the emergency management can sound those sirens that s why you may have heard them in cedar rapids. this was a weak funnel cloud and weak tornado and no damage was record. right now showers and storms on the radar near and south of i80 producing locally heavy rain in washington and also in portions of keokuk and iowa counties. they will fade away within the next couple of minutes. feeling in the air throughout the night. temperatures will fall down into the mid to up certificate 60s by morning and patchy fog in the morning
friday night. good evening i m ken wayne. and i m heather holmes. this major freeway closure is happening right now and it comes after that construction accident set power lines crashing on to the roadway last week. highway101 from buehrleing burlingame to san mateo are going to be closed down. debora villalon is live where crews are starting a new round of repairs, deb. reporter: heather it s a high wire act and crews are just getting started. you can see crews half way up there getting into position. it s the first time in three days 101 on the peninsula has been closed but at least this time it s planned. a piece of the mangled transmission tower knocked down friday night. the tower is long gone to a pg & e yard. two wooden poles are ready to stand in for it but that requires uses these ropes to pull high power lines, but to do that repairs have to be done and a freeway closed. we want to make sure we do the work at a time that s less impactful to our residents. re
