Now at 11 00 this endangered blue whale is beached on the coast tonight and initial investigation shows it may have been struck by a ship. The whale washed up on agate beach in bolinas just north of stinson beach. More now from veronica de la cruz. The blue whale carcass is nearly 80 feet long and is described as a subadult female. The Marin Mammal Center said it first got reports last night about a carcass floating near the shoreline and by this morning it was on the beach. Scientists from the Mammal Center took samples from the skin and blubber and plan to go back out to the beach tomorrow to do a complete necropsy with help from the California Academy of sciences. Thats when theyll be able to determine if a ship strike was the cause of death. Photographs provide another perspective on just how large this whale is. Distinctive markings indicate that this is the same whale spotted a dozen times off the coast since 1999. Reporter from chopper 5 you can see the plane which came to rest at the intersection of solano way and marsh drive on the north end of the runway. An faa spokesman said the plane took off from buchanan field and was trying to return around 2 45 this afternoon when it crashed. Residents say seeing low flying planes here is not at all unusual. It comes over the highway all the time and most pilots are wonderful. They do a great job. So to see Something Like this is pretty darn rare. Reporter the plane was coming in from the North Landing to the south. Thats when it first clipped this fence belonging to a caltrans storage yard, hit this road sign and then slid across the street before coming to a rest at that light post. It took off from here and was attempting to land, had some engine issues and didnt make the airfield. The plane and pilot are both based here at buchanan. Police say some of the Football Players at napa high held down their younger teammates over the past two seasons and grabbed and hit them. Late today the d. A. s office said it filed charges against six of them and is still investigating 11 others. Prosecutors decided not to charge the teams head coach. They said there is insufficient evidence that he violated the law by not reporting the alleged abuse. The School District already expelled five students after conducting its own investigation. Part of this building under construction collapsed in oakland injuring a dozen construction workers. Some of them fell two stories into wet cement. The agency opened four accident inspections into largo concrete, one of them resulting in a serious citation in 2015 for failing to protect workers from rebar. Tonight were learning that subcontractor, largo concrete, has a long list of safety problems on its record. Calosha tells us it has inspected largo concrete, incorporated, a total of 11 times in the past five years. Four of those indents were accident related inspections and three of the 11 inspections conducted statewide resulted in violations for Workplace Safety hazards. The agency will now look to see what happened in oakland. Largo concrete is based in southern california. It does have an office here in the bay area. Youre hoping and praying youre getting a call and hearing there is a donor was exciting but also bittersweet because we know that for a heart transplant, it had to be someone who just passed away. Reporter that someone it turned out was mary knauers son, justin olivera. He died in a motorcycle accident in 2010. And a man just pulled right out in front of him and didnt see him. Reporter justin was a donor and arthur would receive his heart. Three years after the transplant mary wrote arthur a letter. He told me the first night we met, he said this heart and i will do great things and i believed him. Arthur reyes.
