Canadian professor gaining recognition for role in discovering insulin 100 years ago

In 1923, scientists Frederick Banting and John Macleod were jointly awarded a Nobel Prize Canada s first for discovering insulin.
Nearly 100 years later, a lesser-known member of their research team is gaining recognition for his role in one of Canada s biggest medical breakthroughs.
99 years ago this month, University of Alberta professor James Collip managed to purify a pancreatic extract so it could be used on humans. 
Back then, people with diabetes did not live for long, but thanks to insulin, millions of lives have been saved. ....

Campership Fund established to support Canadian youths living with type 1 diabetes to D-Camps
HUNTSVILLE, ON, Jan. 14, 2021 /CNW/ - Camp Huronda, home of Diabetes Canada s camp for children and youth living with type 1 diabetes and one of nine camps established under the D-Camp name, is rebuilding its on-site medical centre. Diabetes Canada s Camps (D-Camps) are for children and youth living with type 1 diabetes. Since its inception, Camp Huronda has offered adventure, leadership skills and fun to more than 20,000 youth in an environment that supports empowerment and builds confidence. As a camp dedicated to youths living with type 1 diabetes, the on-site medical centre is critical to ensure a safe, healthy, and positive camping experience. Construction is scheduled to start this summer.   ....
