It was a warning sign of what the former Premier League team could do, as they just held onto the ball well and passed around the Wanderers backline with ease. It’s no surprise that they had only lost four of their last 18 games under Mick McCarthy before this match. Cardiff continued to attack as Curtis Thompson performed brilliantly in that anchor role to try and stop any danger, but on 23 minutes, the hosts got the goal they deserved. ....
Adebayo Akinfenwa scored his first goal as a Championship player with an injury-time penalty, as Wycombe Wanderers came back from behind to beat Bristol City 2-1 at Adams Park to boost their survival chances. The Chairboys were in City’s face from the get go, as they had the game’s first chance just after the first minute of the contest. A bit of space in the midfield allowed Admiral Muskwe to run at their backline before he unleashed a thunderbolt at the Robins goal, only for Tomas Kalas to block it. This was the story of the first-half. Wycombe dominated as Curtis Thompson covered every blade of grass, whilst Jason McCarthy, Uche Ikpeazu, Garath McCleary and Fred Onyedinma pulled the strings. ....
Wycombe Wanderers’ fight to stay in the Championship was severely dented after they blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Two goals within the first five minutes of the second-half from Admiral Muskwe and Garath McCleary, looked like they had given Wycombe their ninth league win of the season, and their first at the Liberty since 2006.
