Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old who was jailed 12 years and ordered to be caned once for raping an underaged girl, was freed of the charge on Monday.
High Court Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad allowed Kelvin Chong Hon Lam’s appeal against his conviction and sentence and discharged and acquitted Chong of the charge.
In delivering her ruling on Monday, Nurchaya held that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the charge against Chong.

Chong was on Feb 28, 2020 sentenced to 12 years’ jail and ordered to be caned once by the Sessions Court here after he was found guilty at the end of his defence of raping the 15-year-old girl at 11pm on March 28, 2017 in an apartment at Jalan Sulaman, Manggatal. ....

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Lands and Surveys Department says the state government has only handed over land of slightly over 500ha to federal agencies instead of the almost 2,000ha reported previously.
Its director, Bernard Liew Chau Min, clarified that the department had got the figures mixed up,

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,680 new Covid-19 cases amidst much of the population entering their third week of movement control order (MCO) restrictions today.
The number of precious intensive care beds used by Covid-19 patients reached a record high of 314 today with 122 people requiring ventilators to breathe.
Leading indicators:
Patients in ICU: 314 ↑ (34 more than the previous day, new record)
Intubated patients: 122 ↑ (11 more than the previous day, new record)
Deaths: 7
While the Klang Valley had the most number of new cases (41.6 percent), Johor was the state with the most number of cases followed by Sabah. ....

Ghostly silence: What used to be a favourite haunt of visitors is now all quiet.
Tuaran: A ghostly silence has descended on Jalan Sulaman, here, which used to be a hive of activity come weekends.
Located about 30km from Kota Kinabalu, the area with its rows of wooden stalls flanking the road – operated by local traders selling foodstuff, fruits and accessories – was a favourite haunt of visitors from far and near.
And, not far from here is Gayang which is known as a haven for seafood lovers.

However, ever since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was enforced in Sabah, starting Oct 13 due to the sharp spike in Covid-19 cases in the State, the crowds have disappeared from Jalan Sulaman and only a few small stalls are open these days. ....

Kota Kinabalu: Three people escaped unscathed when the Proton car they were travelling in was involved in an overtaking accident at Km 16, Jalan Sulaman, near the University Apartment junction, on Sunday.
In the 9.45pm incident, its 38-year-old driver along with his wife and nephew were heading towards Tuaran when a Kancil emerged from behind manoeuvring to the left and right and overtaking a few vehicles, including theirs.
Fearing a collision, the Proton driver applied the brake, causing a Fortuner driven by a 58-year-old man to hit their vehicle from behind. ....
