[email protected] LAKE PLACID Village of Lake Placid voters should see forms to apply for an absentee ballot arrive in the mail next week. Lake Placid Village Board members Tuesday, Feb. 9 voted to pay for prepaid envelopes that will allow the village’s 1,555 registered voters to not only mail back their application for an absentee ballot for free, but also mail the absentee ballot itself back for free. “We will certainly encourage people to vote absentee,” Mayor Craig Randall said Tuesday. “We have people that will have to be social distanced, masked, all of that is a management problem.” ....

Election Day sign (News photo Andy Flynn) LAKE PLACID The slate of candidates for the upcoming village elections is set, with two people running for mayor, four running for two trustee seats and one running unopposed for justice. The deadline to submit independent nominating petitions was 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, and Village Clerk Anita Estling provided the names of all the candidates for the March 16 election. Current Trustee and Deputy Mayor Art Devlin will run for mayor on the Republican Party and Teamwork Party against former Mayor Jamie Rogers, running on the Common Sense Party. Devlin has been a trustee since 2009. Rogers was mayor from 2005 to 2009. ....
Saturday, January 2, 2021 - 8:55 am BY MATT LINDSEY North Country This Week OGDENSBURG Ogdensburg City School District Board of Education members and school officials recently discussed possibly testing students for COVID-19. St. Lawrence County schools will be required to test 20% of students and staff if the region enters a “Yellow Zone” due to a COVID outbreak. The district sent permission slips to parents seeking permission for students to be tested for COVID-19 at school. Students will not be required to take a test if parents do not wish to. The Board met for a regular meeting Dec. 21, which was streamed live on Facebook. District Assistant Superintendent Jacquelyn Kelly gave the Board the opportunity to ask questions about the new state requirement. ....
