action after the tragedy in newtown, connecticut. good evening, everyone. support for today s rally grew on social media after the sandy hook school shooting in december and several newtown residents were among those marching from the capitol to the washington monument. derrick ward spoke to one of them and other demonstrators on both sides of the gun debate. there was the victim from virginia tech. i was shot four times that morning. reporter: there the father of this boy killed in a high school shooting in ohio. i never stop feeling the pain. reporter: a resident for newtown. not as much as when it hit home. reporter: and a protester who says her right to arms is victimized. my sign is about how gun rights protect us from tyranny. reporter: there were many signs as thousands of gun control supporters marched and rallied, signs of mourning, signs of defiance. the people behind the quickly organized march and rally say it serves as a warning to the gun lobby.
