Syracuse University vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation J. Michael Haynie said in a campus-wide email this afternoon that he expects to receive guidance from New York State “very soon” on the new masking policy. Mask and social distancing requirements are still enforced for some other communal settings as stated in the latest policy from Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Haynie said in the email. ....

Vice Chancellor Haynie Delivers Congressional Testimony on Difficult Military Transitions During Pandemic

J. Michael Haynie, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity on May 12. Haynie testified in a hearing entitled “Military Transition in the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Haynie said the central theme of his testimony was the best use of resources designated to support the post-services lives of our nation’s veterans to ensure a successful transition from military to civilian life. “This is because separating from military service represents an event that goes well beyond a vocational transition, but instead extends to a transition of identity, relationships and community-connectedness,” he said. Syracuse University will not change its guidance on wearing masks on campus until the New York State Department of Health issues recommendations.
SU will not re-evaluate their own mask policy until the state completes its own re-evaluation, said J. Michael Haynie, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation, in an campus-wide email Friday morning. The NYSDOH is in the process of reviewing the recent mask-wearing recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which announced on Thursday that people who are fully vaccinated can stop wearing masks in most situations.  ....
