Intensify? warm golf waters. the storm ever since it formed has not had a lot of disruption. it did hit the weather tip of cuba, that slowed it down a little bit but not significantly like moving over a major land mass. when it got out over the gulf of mexico and the water that s been warming all summer long it s just intensified and fueled the storm as it chugs towards the south coast of florida. luckily for people in the tampa bay it looks like the eye wall will make landfall somewhere south of here, fort myers or sarasota. that s where the highest winds will hit, right now, 140 miles per hour. we ll see if it keeps up as it moves from the coast later on this afternoon and later on this evening. this saer not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. we re going to see heavy rain and high winds here in tampa. this area in tampa bay hasn t seen a major hurricane direct ....
Again, meaning it looks like dorian could be an even more severe or intense hurricane than we ve already seen with winds at 150 miles per hour. but we ll be getting that update for you, the latest information at the top of the hour. as it continues to move toward the west at 8 miles an hour. that s bad news because it s moving fairly slowly. yesterday it was chugging along at just about 10 miles an hour. the slower this moves the greater the impact. and for the bahamas this means there will be catastrophic damage. category 4 hurricane as it chugs across the bahamas. already the hurricane hunters are right now investigating what s going on with dorian. and there was a report of a 167-mile-per-hour wind gust. that was just for ten seconds. they need it for longer than that. but the estimates are that this could really be intensifying across this area and could linger into the northern bahamas maybe for the better part of a day, perhaps even longer than that. what we re anticipating, wind ....
Air moving into the western half of the storm. that really tests the i go tegrity and power of the storm. it s going to continue to weaken as it chugs northward. what you mentioned earlier, about the idea of heavy winds or heavy winds and big waves actually affecting parts of long island, that is really going to be an issue around 3:00 this afternoon. high tide for that part of long island. and what we re going to be seeing, of course, is some of that wind spinning counterclockwise around the center of circulation that is going to cause the water to pile up. so you might see a little bit of coastal flooding. but the farther north it goes, it s moving into an area of much cooler water, away from its primary power source, that warm ocean water. as it chugs to the north, latest forecast we have from the national hurricane center expects that, at least, according to the forecast, 80 miles per hour with gusts up to 100 by 8:00 p.m. on friday. now, just possibly skimming parts of cape cod, a ....
