Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam attempted to distance themselves from the man who killed a Capitol Police officer in a vehicle attack Friday after it emerged that he was a follower of the controversial group.
A statement released by the group on behalf of Farrakhan, his family, and all registered members of the organization said that “we are in sympathy with the victims of this tragedy” and “we are in sympathy with the families of these victims.”
The group acknowledged that Noah Green attended one of their conferences, made a $1,000 donation to the organization, and was studying to join the religion, but he had not become a member yet. It disavowed his actions but had some kind words for him too and criticized any effort to tie the attack to the organization or Farrakhan himself.
Teammates of former Christopher Newport University football player Noah Green said his behavior while in the program provided no indication of his fateful actions at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.
