The exit of the People’s Conference has seemingly left the PAGD adrift. The five-party alliance including big players like National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have not met for nearly two months now.
Seemingly, the PAGD is disinterested in the elections to the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons which they have lost in six out of 13 where they had the mandate when results were declared on December 22 last year. The alliance also hasn’t appointed a new official spokesperson since Sajad Gani Lone left.

From a woman who originally came from Muzaffarabad to a former minister, a senior Congress leader and former legislators to the children of senior mainstream political leaders, the DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir saw a galaxy of candidates trying their luck. Here are some of the big winners and losers in what is the biggest democratic event in the new Union Territory:

The PAGD had fielded journalist turned Peoples Democratic Party Chief Spokesperson Suhail Bukhari while the Apni party had fielded former lawmaker Shoaib Nabi Lone whose father also a minister was assassinated during 2002 PDP-Congress government.

While Irfan secured 2339 votes, Shoaib was runner up with 2110 votes. Bukhari supported by PAGD was on the fifth number.
Irfan, a social activist, had said, “I have joined the electoral fray to defeat BJP’s proxies in Kashmir.”
