Clerics and scholars in Iran call for ceasefire and end to war

Clerics and scholars in Iran have declared their full support for a ceasefire and the end to hostilities and bloodshed in Afghanistan, following a joint symposium on the Afghan peace process.
In a joint statement issued by the clerics and scholars, they called for peace talks to move forward and for continued efforts on the part of regional and global countries to end the war and to preserve the achievements made over the past 20 years, within a Republic system.
“Continued declarations of Islamic centers and scholars of the Islamic world in connection with the condemnation and illegitimacy of the current war in Afghanistan and the need for an immediate ceasefire to stop the bloodshed in the country; Sunni and Shiite community of immigrants and Ansar in Mashhad, Iran declared their full support for the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities and bloodshed in Afghanistan,” a statement issued by the Afghan Ministry of ....

Mahvash Sabet, a leading representative of the Baha i religion, spent almost ten years in Iranian prisons because of her faith. She was released in September. Sabet turned her experiences during her confinement into poems, which she managed to smuggle out of prison. Interview by Keyvandokht Ghahari
Ms Sabet, can you describe the day of your release for us?
Mahvash Sabet:
 My family and I were expecting my release on 19 September. On 18 September, however, I was informed that I was being released. The prison staff didn t even allow me to use the telephone. They just brought me to the exit and that was that. I told them I would get someone to film me and would tell the whole world they had just let me out on the street after ten years in prison with no money, no belongings, and that I didn t know anything and wasn t able to do anything. Academic brain drain raised by MPs after years of denial
The number of students and academics fleeing Iran, including many top professors, is causing a sizeable brain drain and has reached such high levels that it is being openly discussed in the Iranian parliament, after years of government denial.
In the past, the government has denied that a major problem exists, but oppressive regime tactics coupled with crippling international sanctions and salaries made uncompetitive by the falling currency value have led to more and more highly educated Iranians fleeing the country.
The protracted issue was brought to the forefront again during a Majles-e Showra-ye Eslami (parliament) session in the capital Tehran this month when lawmakers from different regions of the country expressed concern that the talent exodus could aggravate the country’s economic crisis. ....

Four men are hanged in Iran for gang-raping mountain climber in front of her husband


Four men have been executed in Iran for gang-raping a woman in front of her husband who was tied up and made to watch. 
The horrific attack took place while the couple were climbing a mountain in the Khorasan Razavi province and the men were hanged on Monday after an extensive police investigation. 
Ruhollah Javidi Rad, Mohammad Sayadi Baghansgani, Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Watandoost were identified by Fariman police and were charged with the kidnapping and rape of a woman and with threats of violence towards a man.
