Food Lion donates more than 200,000 meals to neighbors in need

Throughout the 2020 fall college football season, Food Lion Feeds partnered with eight colleges and universities to help nourish our local neighbors in need. During the season, for every quarterback sack made by the participating college, Food Lion Feeds donated 1,000 meals to the school’s local food bank through the Sack to Give Back program.
“At Food Lion, we care about nourishing our neighbors in need, and we were cheering on each school to rack up as many sacks as they could this football season,” said Jennifer Blanchard, director of community relations for Food Lion. “We’re proud of the hard work these student athletes did on the field to ensure our neighbors do not have to worry about where their next meal will come from this holiday season.” ....

Parks and Recreation Department works to deal with COVID-19

As COVID-19 cases rise the Craig Parks and Recreation Department is working on ways to keep community members active and outside. And despite Old Man Winter’s growing presence, the Parks and Rec department is working on developing programs for all ages, including snowshoeing.
Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Dennison said the key to success is to be adaptable. When COVID-19 first hit, Dennison said they had to quickly go to a contingency plan for the swimming complex and follow state and local guidelines in all their programming. ....

SALISBURY, N.C., Dec. 11, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Food Lion Feeds is passing assists to 17 Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia colleges and universities this men’s basketball season to help feed neighbors in need. For each foul shot swished by participating schools, Food Lion Feeds will donate 100 meals to the school’s local food bank or pantry, up to 30,000 meals per school.
The Score to Give More program started November 25 and runs through the men’s basketball season. ....
