donald trump are more enthusiastic about voting for donald trump than people who intended to vote for joe biden are enthusiastic about voting for joe biden. there is a major intensity gap between donald trump and really everybody else. i interviewed trump last month at mar-a-lago and we talked about this intensity gap and he says he feels and it s actually the reason he felt he could run a gun even after he returned to florida right after january 6th, he always felt this intensity gap. the problem, of course, is it works both ways. and for people who are super positive about donald trump, there are a lot of people who are super negative about donald trump. and that does motivate voters on the other side. we saw it in 2020 and we will see it again this november. gillian: so, byron, we have some numbers let s throw them on the screen so people can see what you are talking about. this is latest polling on
that very thin margin in the senate that they have when the vice president s tie-breaking vote come november. and david, how long do you think democrats have to change this narrative, to get build back better passed, to get other legislative items through the house and senate before they get clobbered? you usually see an electoral environment sort of start to take hold in june, july and then it s real hard. you need external number. you brought up the leadership. you said 66%. that s what the poll found of people who have reservations about his leadership. 36% of democrats say they have some doubts or reservations. he also has this issue of his home team, democrats not strongly approving of it. there s an intensity gap, a rallying around effort that needs to happen here. his legislation would help that, but it s totally stalled out at the moment and so you have democrats not nearly as enthusiastic as the president would need them to be. david chalian, thank you so
that comes from the nbc poll. i know the president said he didn t campaign to do well in the polls. but he certainly is not doing that right now. in that poll he s under water by double digits overall unapproval. one number that i thought was interesting in the nbc survey is strong approve versus strong disapprove. he had 18% of the country strongly approving of his job performance. 46% strongly disapprove. that s an intensity gap as well. i understand biden, the president, what else can you say when your poll numbers are this bad saying i m not governing nor the polls. what he did say, i want to do what i promised to the country. he promised to be truthful, competent and to unify the country. on that exact same poll he s failing as well. so you i don t know where you go from there but it s a bit ugly for the democratic party.
