Were told that search and rescue teams will be working in the avalanche area. And this from the caltrans cameras near the entrance to Alpine Meadows resort. You can see the roads are mostly clear. For the most part they are. Kind of some slushy conditions and good access for the rescue teams. An avalanche in the sierra this morning. Several victims are unaccounted for. Let me tell you more about Alpine Meadows, the other deadly avalanche was decades ago and 7 people were killed and 5 severely injured in march of 1982. It was a wall of snow and ice that dropped from some 700 feet above the Northeast Area of alpine. It took out one chair lift and damaged others. It buried structures including the main lodge. And a major avalanche at squaw valley in 2018 caught 5 people near the olympic lady chair lift. 2 people were seriously injured. A snow boarders rescue captured here on cell phone video. No one was killed in that instant. Sincntthreat of avalanche, its something the rescue teams train for. This exercise from 2017 is typical. They use specially trained dogs, probes to practice looking for victims buried in the snow ....
