We begin tonight with a Major Development in a story many of you saw sunday on 60 minutes about a michigan Sports Medicine doctor who treated the nations top female gymnasts. Today, 53yearold dr. Larry nassar was hit with 22 criminal charges, accused of sexually assaulting nine girls. And he has many more accusers. Our dr. Jon lapook has been investigating this story, and a word of caution some of what youre about to hear is graphic. This guy is disgusting. This guy is despicable. He is a monster. Reporter Michigan Attorney general Bill Schuette has charged dr. Nassar with sexually assaulting young female gymnasts under the guise of medical treatment ....
This is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. Todays complaint alleges the nine athletes, all under the age of 16, had treatments that included digital penetration of the vagina and anus. Since december, nassar has been held without bail in michigan, charged with possession of child pornography, and criminal Sexual Conduct involving the daughter of a family friend. Complaints against nassar first became public in september 2016 after an investigation by the indy star revealed sexual abuse allegations against gymnastics coaches. That prompted young women to come forward with accusations about nassar. He was the team doctor for the womens olympic gymnastics team. Thats him right after kerri strugs famous ankle injury in the 1996 olympics in atlanta. According to the attorney general, more than 80 women have come forward so far with complaints against nassar. To have the southbound lanes highway 101 number one and number two lanes open at the embarcadero overpass by 1 00. It all depends what cal trans determines. They have been atop there examining the damage caused by a dump truck that collided with the overpass last night. The impact was so strong it created a crack in the concrete that is 27 feet wide, according to chp. Local cal trans engineers first inspected the damage between 1 00 and 2 00 this morning and around 9 30 workers started ching away the loose concrete. Headquarters coufrom sacramento could get his eyes on the problem. There are two options. Cal trans can reopen the lanes at 1 00 as i mentioned and fix the overpass at a later date, or the damage ask so severe, they can keep the lanes closed and fix the overpass today. This accident happened around 11 00 last night. A dump truck driver had just finished dumping his load about a couple00 yards north of this location at a work site on highway 101, and according to chp, failed ....
