The situation is worse in the case of the Indian IT industry, with none of the 54 companies in the NSE-1000 index having a female CEO. In 2013, Indian corporate boardrooms with women board leaders was around 7 per cent. In 2021, Indian corporate boardrooms with women Board Leaders is more than 17 per cent.
That’s close to 150 per cent growth and this is just a start. With the changing times in Indian Boardrooms and introduction of new mandates by Companies Act, 2013 and SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, appointment of at least one-woman independent director is the need of the hour.
According to the Global Gender Diversity Report 2020 by the Egon Zehnder, women currently hold 17 per cent of Board positions in corporate India, an increase of 8.6 per cent since 2012. ....
