Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Sitiveni Rabuka on his election as Prime Minister of Fiji and said he looks forward to working together with the leader to further strengthen the close and long-standing relations between the countries.
On Saturday, Sitiveni Rabuka was elected as Fiji's new Prime Minister, the country's parliament announced, the Chinese state-run English-language news channel CGTN reported. Rabuka, is the leader of the People's Alliance, a political party in Fiji formed in 2021.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that India is closely monitoring the situation in Fiji after the Pacific island nation s police called in the military to help maintain security following last week s election which resulted in a hung parliament.
