Monroe Museum makes history relevant The Monroe News History matters. History is relevant. When the Pew Research Center conducts a study on trusted institutions, museums always rank a close second behind libraries - a tremendous responsibility for museums. Though history is about the past, it was never intended for those who have passed. It is about our lived experience, about our connections, about our story to inspire a better future. Large and small, in cities and rural locations, museums are helping to strengthen communities and contribute to not only quality of life enhancements and place-making, but heritage tourism. Additionally, cultural institutions are working to foster thoughtful discussions and dialogue about what’s important in their communities. AFL-CIO supports museum millage renewal The Monroe News The Monroe/Lenawee County American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Central Labor Council endorses the Monroe County Museum System’s millage on the May 4th, 2021 ballot. The AFL-CIO has always valued education for not only children but learners of all ages. Cultural institutions such as the Monroe County Historical Museum System (MCMS) are important and foundational in a community, especially ones with such a long and deep heritage as this region. The museum is seeking to renew its current one-tenth of a mill levy for 10 years, along with a request to increase the millage by .05 to .15. ....
