BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Four Alabama senators penned a letter about what they are calling the COVID-19 vaccine distribution problem in Alabama.
Senators Jim McClendon, Greg Albritton, Tom Whatley and Randy Price released the following letter Tuesday, January 19:
We have always known that distributing the Covid vaccine supply would be difficult, especially in the beginning.
While the supply pipeline is definitely an issue, our pipeline in Alabama has a kink. The distribution of vaccines to Alabama will continue to be interrupted until Alabama plays by the rules. The rule is simple: The CDC will not authorize shipments to Alabama until they know we are using what we have on hand. Our citizens are paying a deadly price. ....

Thumbs Up: Bill Nichols resident is first non healthcare recipient of vaccine, area nursing homes to start receiving the vaccine soon


Shealey offered a quick ‘thumbs up’ Tuesday while getting his vaccine.
“I feel great after taking the vaccine and I’m proud to aid in the fight against the virus,” Shealey said in a release from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA).
ADVA commissioner Kent Davis was happy to see the state’s veterans homes getting the vaccine after being some of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are very pleased with the planning and preparation that went into rolling out the vaccine today for our residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home,” Davis said in a release. “Our staff and the pharmacy team did an outstanding job administering the vaccine and we’re on track to complete the first round of vaccinations for all four homes by Jan. 11.” ....

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs announced Monday that coronavirus vaccinations will begin Tuesday for about 468 residents and 850 staff members.
The first immunizations of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered to residents and staff at the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City on Tuesday, according to the department.
They begin at Floyd E. ‘Tut’ Fann State Veterans Home on Thursday, at William F. Green State Veterans Home on Jan. 7, and at Colonel Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home on Jan. 11. ....

The Alabama Department of Public Health said the rollout of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine has begun in the state.

This comes after the U.S. granted emergency use authorization for the vaccine on Friday.
The first round of distribution in Alabama is designated for health care workers and long-term care residents. The Alabama Department of Public Health said on Monday that the state’s initial allocation of 40,950 doses of coronavirus vaccine has begun arriving in the state. It said this allocation will be received at three sites on Monday and 12 sites on Tuesday. ....
