We launch this last semester to give our students the opportunity here from renowned leaders, the individuals to bring illuminating dialogue insight and inspiration to our campus. In the heart of a nations capital, our universities fortunate to be surrounded by the many governmental nonprofit and International Agencies and organizations that make decisions that affect each of us every day. For that generous introduction. The phrase beyond my wildest dreams is kind of a throwaway phrase in our culture. But i thought maybe one day i write this book and people notice it, maybe one day the mayor of charleston will be holding it in front of an audience. [laughter] it tells the story of reconstruction and im going to read some passages from it some of which deal with the Police Department and some of which deal with the charleston mayor as the police chief and current mayor here is plain and poignant. We are all errors to something. We have no say we are born where we are and we have no say of what we inherit and what we dont. All we have control over is what we do with it. We are going to recount some of the triumphs of the city and the greatest tragedies so it is for all of you moving on from the tragedy of 2015, youve created this group. You decided intentionally to create this space where difficult issues in the community could be discussed. It would have been easy and hum
voters. the country is in disarray. we see it crime on our streets or border that s irresponsible, reckless or dangerous. we see it with our world on fire. for the first time. 81% of americans don t think their kids are going to live as good of a life as we have. we can t be okay with that we have one job as parents and that s to do right by our kids. every child deserves a good education, regardless of where they are born and raised. we feel it with our mortgage payments. with our insurance payments. everything that we have to pay has all gone up: i analyze the threat and the stronger the threat, the higher the heel i m a problem solver, more than that i. no one is going to outwork me or outsmart me in this race. we do have a country to save. i ll promise you this, if you join with me in this movement, if you join with me in this fight, i promise you our best days are yet to come. martha: welcome to des moines, iowa, everybody. good evening from the iowa events c
