well i don t put a lot of credence into it ana here s the reason. any pilot worth his salt flying into an area of thunderstorms is going to put continuous ignition on his engines, which means the igniter is constantly going. it s like turning the key on your car constantly inn case it stalls. that s what you re supposed to do. in the situation with icing, you could get into a situation where you have to kind of restart the engine. there have been engines that have flamed out in the past and cut out. now, let s assume for a moment that that didn t happen, that that system failed or the pilot neglected to turn it on. if those engines did indeed flame out, that airport would still be a perfectly viable aircraft to fly and could glide for upwards of a hundred miles and could have made landfall. so the crew at that point would have set for the best glide rate pointed toward land and got on the radio and said we have a problem here we are without engines and we are headed toward land. so s ....

Al let s turn theal alistair for that. is it likely that icing could have led to the plane s downfall? well icing is indeed one of the major dangers of flying inside a thunderstorm. and as your meteorologist pointed out, the aircraft can pass through layers in the atmosphere in those clouds where you can pick up icing. it can affect you two ways. one, it can impact on the engines but forming ice on the air intake. it can also form ice on the flying surface, the leading edge of the wing and tail and the aerodynamics and even the weight of ice canning prevent the aircraft from flying normally. it doesn t need a great deal of disturbance to the aircraft in terms of ice buildup for the aircraft to reach the stall speed at those altitudes so icing is indeed a possible factor. but we don t know why the plane came down. ....
