A jury ruled on Thursday that the Anoka County jail held an immigrant woman longer than legally permissible after arresting her for driving without a license in 2017.
But the jury concluded that Myriam Parada did not suffer damages from jail staff reporting her to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, resulting in her being taken to ICE detention and setting into motion deportation procedures.
The decision marked the end of a four-day civil trial presided over by U.S. Chief Judge John R. Tunheim and the first federal trial that has been held entirely over Zoom in Minnesota to accommodate safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheldon man settles with Worthington police


SHELDON—It has almost been two years but Kelvin Francisco Rodriguez can still barely watch the video of his assault by a Worthington, MN, police officer and the officer’s friend.
That incident left the 34-year-old Sheldon resident bleeding internally and with four broken ribs that punctured his liver and pancreas.
The Minnesota ACLU filed suit in October 2019 on Rodriguez’s behalf and the city of Worthington recently settled the matter for $590,000 while also agreeing to make reforms to its police department.
Changes include police officer aggression and resistance reports in cases; prohibiting warrior training; requiring Fair and Impartial Policing Training and offering officers incentives to learn a second language. ....
