HUDSON, Ohio â According to an American Legion Department of Ohio news release, the Hudson Lee-Bishop American Legion, whose post officer cut the microphone of a veteran as he spoke about Memorial Dayâs connection to Black history during a speech on Memorial Day, has been suspended pending permanent closure.
The audio was cut on a veteran’s microphone at a Memorial Day event in Hudson, Ohio, shortly after he began discussing the role Black people played in the holiday’s origins in an incident that local media report was no accident.
In his Memorial Day speech, a retired Army Lt. Col. wanted to recognize the role Black people played in the formation of what we now know as Memorial Day. But he was literally silenced when event organizers cut his mic, later saying that section of the speech was "not relevant."
