Pantami: Reps minority caucus tackles Gbajabiamila

The minority caucus of the House of Representatives has faulted the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, for faulting how the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, called for a debate on the issues around the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
The opposition lawmakers stated that Elumelu came on the right order and Gbajabiamila should not have prevented a debate on the call.
The caucus also condemned Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu, for allegedly insulting the Minority Leader , asking the House’ spokesman to apologise to the Minority Leader.

Reps begin FG assets recovery in privatised entities

THE ad hoc committee set up by the House of Representatives to investigate and recover liquid and fixed assets of the Federal Government in privatised enterprises has begun its assignment.
The committee, chaired by Ibrahim Misau, who is also Chairman of the House Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, held its inaugural meeting in Abuja on Monday.
Misau stated that the panel would deliver on its mandate.
He said in part, “I want to assure the Speaker and members of the public that we shall work with the House Standing Rules and uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in doing our job. ....

Privatization: Reps' C'mte vows to recover FG's missing money, assets

House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on Recovery of monies, Assets and Dividends of the Federal Government in some privatised public enterprises has vowed to discharge its duties diligently and produce results.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau at the inauguration of the members yesterday in Abuja made the vow.
Misau who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation however said that the committee was not out for any form of witch-hunting, assuring that it would work with utmost caution.
He called for the support of all stakeholders including the media and erstwhile staff of the privatised public enterprises and the labour unions to achieve the desired objectives. ....

Jigawa assembly extends tenure of councils’ chairmen

The Speaker Jigawa State House of Assembly, Idris Garba, has announced the tenure extension of local government councils chairmen from two to three years consecutively.
This followed the amendment of section 6 (1) of the Local Government Law of Jigawa State 2012 which also provided that under the law, a person who served as elected chairman for two terms is exempted to stand for election by the law.
The speaker said the amendment also mandated the Governor and the state House of Assembly to suspend or remove from office any local government Chairman, Vice Chairman, Supervisory Councillor and Councillor found guilty of criminal offence or official misconduct. ....
