Fireworks by tuning in to nbc tonight. they should get started around 9:25 p.m. and rain or shine is my understanding. as long as there s not severe weather and lightning, the show will go on. we do not want this to be canceled. you can see all the kids and the smiles that are, they re warming up right now, basically. what happens if it gets canceled? did they say? they have not said. frankly, people are just trying to ignore that possibility at the moment. i think people don t want it to be jinxed. they ve told us they re monitoring everything closely. they re going to keep an eye out on severe weather. they mentioned lightning as the element they re really keeping a close eye on. but right now, the hope is things are going to get back on schedule even out of coney island where the infamous hot dog competition was just delayed. no. the hope is we can move ahead as planned.
if you delay the hot dog competition, you ve stopped history. that cannot happen. guad, you and i know this. let s talk about conditions in miami before we get to michelle here. reporter: conditions here are very nice. we ve had more visitors than expected here this week. in fact, miami beach is the top beach city destination this fourth of july weekend. the airport authority says they ll be serving about a million passengers going through miami international airport the entire week and as you can see, conditions are perfect. it is hotter than usual. i keep saying the sand behind us is so hot, you can t walk on that barefoot. you have to wear shoes because it s so hot. life guards say they have a lot of tourists that aren t familiar with the ocean and water so they ask them to pay special attention to the water if they re going to get in because of the possibility of rip currents in the area and other parts of florida.
