who is next? >> brian: he went on to say in his op-ed the professor himself, matlin jones students need to take the responsibility to take failure if they continue to deflect blame, they will never go. everyone hits limits and vital skill to use failure to overcome and improve. failure should become a classical. teachers must assign poor grades when students do poorly without worrying about punishment. must not coddle sake of. we will not produce those doctors, engineers, scientists and citizens who will guide us to a better future. and he went on to say that he could tell that nobody -- he is 84 years old. he could tell that nobody was watching his videos. he said they weren't coming to class. i take attendance. they weren't come. it's not that i'm putting out things are too hard with homework that makes no sense. he sees lack of effort. administrators don't have any experience or expertise, judging him and deciding his fate without any expertise in the areas. >> ainsley: all these deans too scared. this guy is too hard and unresponsive and blah blah blah blah blah. so they signed a petition and got this guy out. and he is claiming that's why he was fired. listen, i was a biology major freshman and sophomore year i took chem 1. i realized it was really hard. i loved biology. chemistry really difficult for me. chem 1 i took it. always meeting with the professors, always had tutors. got through that maybe with a b. then took chem 2. really, really hard. i might have squeezed out a b. probably a c. and i was a good student. so i realized okay. i have got to look at my life. do i want to be an orthodontist anymore or kind of focus on what i was created to do. maybe this was not the right path for me. junior year i had to take organic. i decided to change my major. went he to journalism school immediately started to succeed and do well. that's what i was made to do. it taught me a valuable lesson. i had to come face to face i had to change my plans. it was hard and difficult but in the long run it served me well. >> will: that's what failure does either teaches you to change course or push through. here is the line that got my attention. everyone hits their limits at some point. here's what i find fascinating. wow these students have a rude awakening waiting them in the real world. i think i was i don't think. a lot of this generation has changed the real world. corporate culture. the united states has begun to change and we have not embraced failure. we have can catered and colded to a generation that runs through victimhood and offense. what i'm curious about is as he goes on, is the limit then not going to be an individual limit but a national limit? good morning, family. thank you so much. i want to turn to our panel. thank you all for being here with me today and tell the story. it takes a lot of bravery in this time. aleta, i want to go to you, first. tell me about the pen that you wear on your chest. that's your son? >> yeah. this is the picture of my son. his name is alex rosas garcia. murdered on january 24th of 2015. >> lawrence: what happened? >> my son was coming out of a club and there was an argument -- well, someone tried to argue with him about him speaking to a girl. he tried to walk away from the situation. he apologized to the guy said i'm sorry, you know. walked away from the situation. got in his car. the guy who had a long history of incarcerations and criminal activity. he went to his car and got his gun and shot my son 15 times. >> lawrence: who do you hold responsible for repeat offender being back on the street to victimize and kill your son? >> the first person i hold responsible is the person who killed my son. he has a responsibility. his family has a responsibility that they cannot meet. concerned about the fact that he been incarcerated multiple times and he had just left prison done that he was the head of a multi-state gang him and his brother. the whole family was involved in drugs over several states. the year after my son was murdered that particular gang came down and in the newspaper of all the leaders of that gang. and they were able to shut them down in camden at least, they continue to survive in puerto rico, massachusetts i suppose still in camden and parts of pennsylvania. >> lawrence: they never turned their life around. they just revictimized? >> yes. >> lawrence: raz lynn, i want to go to you because you lost your brother and boyfriend to the violence happening on the street. tell me about them. for. >> so in '93 i survived an attempted homicide by the same person who took the life of my boyfriend tyber jackson. this particular person who took my boyfriend's life was a gunshot victim himself who just suffered from the trauma and the unaddressed trauma continued to continue to be unaddressed and he too became a shooter. then in 2012 i lost my brother alexander martinez to a murder here in philadelphia. the case is currently unsolved. and in 2,000 lost my identical twin sister to self-inflicted gunshot wound when the state allowed her access to a firearm are a woman who started a women's group for firearms to teach them firearms and what led you to build this organization and this safe space almost for women? >> sure, this is actually terry's organization. i'm one of the students. so, i sought him out a little over two years ago because of all the riots and looting and stuff like that that was going on. also, just the rise in crime. did i not feel safe. i had a firearm at home. i did not know how to utilize it. and so i thought it was important to be a responsible gun owner to learn how to use that appropriately and so that way i am not a harm to others and i can protect myself and my family. >> lawrence: thank you so much. martina, you're a g.o.p. rep. what are elected officials doing to solve this problem and i don't want to just put the onus on you. because this is happening all across the country and yet, you hear story after story and victims feel like our elected leaders aren't doing anything to solve the problem. what can you tell them? >> you know, i would just say that crime and safety of our public is a top priority for legislators in harrisburg and i'm sure in legislatures all across the country. in major cities like philadelphia, what we are seeing is unfortunately gun crimes are not being prosecuted. illegal firearm possessions and other types of crime that are committed with illegal firearms are not being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. and so what we are seeing is more people who are committing those criminal acts. reoffending, and winding up back on our streets. >> so, my focus has really been on ensuring that the laws that the legislature has put into effect are being properly enforced before we continue to go down the road of passing more legislation. that doesn't actually get enforced either. >> lawrence: real quickly because i have to go. who is responsible for making sure those laws are enforced once the legislator passes those laws that. >> would be the district attorney here in philadelphia larry krasner well-known amongst the criminal community as uncle larry because he has been letting so many people off and out of prison. >> lawrence: i see your colleague
