Elvi Saralampi, 92, of Toivola, MN passed away Friday, June 10 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm, MN. She was born to Finnish immigrants Kalle and Fiina Salin on December 20, 1929 on the family farm in Zim, MN. She was the youngest of 10 children. Elvi attended schools in Forbes and Cherry and was valedictorian of the Cherry High School class of 1947. She married Alvin Saralampi on December 4, 1948 at the parsonage of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. At the age of 40 she returned to school and in 1971 graduated from the Junior Accounting program at Eveleth Vocational Technical School. She found her perfect job as a bookkeeper at the Hibbing Cooperative Credit Union and worked there for 15 years.
