It may seem a little unorthodox, but in my humble opinion, Easter is the best celebration; it lacks the great (and utterly unachievable) expectations which come as part and parcel at Christmas and manages to swerve the cringingly awkward forced sentimentality which one finds themselves drowning in on Valentine's Day. The one thing I will say for Christmas is that you cannot possibly miss the memo, with its brash and unavoidable month-long run-up of garish jumpers and twinkling lights. Easter, on the other hand, creeps up on us; one minute we're cooing at the first signs of spring, only to look up and find ourselves knee-deep in pastel-hued décor, glinting foil eggs and a ream of invitations to family get-togethers.
