What Is Stopping Our Justice System From Tackling the Cases Pending Before Courts?
Data shows that over the last 15 years, there has been an astounding increase of about 14.2 million cases pending in high courts and district courts – an increase of almost one million per year.

The second major problem facing the justice system is the number of pending cases. Exactly how many cases are pending in the courts across the country? Perhaps the most reliable figures (but not necessarily 100% accurate) are in the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) which is an interactive page on the ecourts website – even though this plays truant sometimes. Kolkata: A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee disclosing WhatsApp chat of special police observer Vivek Dube asking District Magistrate to arrest TMC supporters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday stated that the claims of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments are baseless.
“A section of the media have reported about allegations made by Hon ble Chairperson AITC and CM West Bengal that instructions have been given by some officers of ECI and Observers to arrest “TMC goons”. Such statements supposedly attributed to ECI Officers and Observers are absolutely baseless, false and misleading. No such instructions have been given by any Observer, Chief Electoral Officer or Officer of the Commission to act against workers of any Party (ies),” read the statement. ....

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: National Conference MPs led by party president Dr Farooq Abdullah today informed the Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir that they wouldn’t participate in its proceedings as the abrogation of the erstwhile State’s special status was pending adjudication before the Supreme Court.
In a letter to Delimitation Commission chairperson Justice (Retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, Abdullah, Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone expressed their inability to associate with the commission.
They also urged him not to go ahead with the delimitation process as the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 is under judicial scrutiny. ....
