Given that Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom were friends and colleagues, and Twitter was also seeking to purchase Instagram, the sale to Facebook resulted in bad blood, recounts reporter Casey Newton in his Platformer newsletter. The unnamed company is backed by investment firm Blackstone Group and is being led by two former Disney executives, Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs. It acquired Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine in August for $900 million, and was also rumored to be eyeing Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc. though those talks appear to have ceased. Its shows are distributed on countless platforms across the globe, including YouTube and Netflix, with accompanying merch at Walmart and Amazon. FaZe Clan is bringing former member FaZe ZooMaa back into the fold this time with new responsibilities. ZooMaa, whose real name is Tommy Paparatto, is a retired Call Of Duty pro who formerly competed for FaZe, and is now returning to the esports org in a content creator capacity. FaZe will now rep Paparatto’s Call Of Duty League commentary show, The Flank. Paparatto retired from professional play earlier this year due to a thumb injury, and subsequently transitioned into the esports commentary realm. In Something About Larray, the 23-year-old social phenom whose real name is Larri Merritt will over the course of 11 episodes renovate his grandmother’s home, where she has resided for 60 years. Apple has named its second original podcast and officially premiered its first. The hardware giant will tackle opioids and bank robbery in Hooked, which is produced by Campside Media the studio behind Chameleon: Hollywood Con Queen, Deadline reports. In April, it was reported that the company was readying a series about magicician duo Siegfried & Roy the first original show not tied to one of its existing Apple TV+ series. That said, Hooked marks the first show to debut on its podcast platform. Hooked is a biography of Tony Hathaway, who became addicted to opioids, leading to his descent from a successful career in engineering to a 30-year stint as a notorious bank robber. The podcast is an adaptation of a story for Bloomberg Businessweek that was written by Campside Media founder Josh Dean in 2019.
