My sincere thanks to douglas for inviting me to come to the national archives. Its such a pleasure being in this beautiful city with such a rich history and thank you all so much for coming. This project was inspired by a story that my aunt told me about a distant cousin who grew up on the south side of chicago in the 1930s. The story begins with a parade. The historic but. That means shes black and she cant work at the store if shes black.
