The tradition of mazars in two villages in Rishikesh, featuring Islamic symbolism but owned by upper-caste Hindu families, is fading away. These mazars were constructed on privately owned land and are now being dismantled voluntarily as part of an anti-encroachment campaign by the Uttarakhand government.
