Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney backs renewal of the Highlands Conservation Act


FORT MONTGOMERY Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced Friday he has introduced legislation to reauthorize the Highlands Conservation Act during an appearance at the Fort Montgomery State Historic Site.
The act protects critical conservation areas in the Mid-Atlantic Highlands region, which includes parts of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. Since 2007, $70 million in funding has been awarded to the four states through the act s grants program, including $20 million to New York.
Senators, including Kirsten Gilibrand of New York, Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
