Typical household energy bills could reach over £4,000 a year from april after the government said it would scale back support, which had been due to last for two years. the news comes after the national grid warned of potential power cuts this winter if we don t import enough gas and electricity. experts have been calling on households to reduce their energy consumption to try and reduce the chance of blackouts. it s something people in parts of the eu have already been doing. this graph shows how countries are tracking their reduction in energy usage. leading the way is the netherlands, which used 14% less electricity in august compared with its average for the month. one reason given for its success is said to be an energy saving campaign called flip the switch , which launched in april and focussed on turning off lights, swapping to energy efficient bulbs, limiting hot showers to five minutes and turning heating thermostats down to 19 celsius. dutch citizens can even have an ener ....
